Loon Fung
your comments review this restaurant
First off I'd like to say I agree with Judy.
Out of the three best Chinese restaurants in Glasgow Loon Fung is the best for food, but it is also the one lacking the most for service.
As an Italian-Chinese I know what good Chinese food is like and this place hits all the right spots.
Obviously at times there can be faults, hence when me and my family went for lunch with our gran the rice was cold (not luke warm) or when they thickened one of the meal's sauces they didn't mix the cornflour paste into the sauce properly, so instead of a velvety smooth sauce it was....well snot-like. At other times the food is faultless, everything was perfect.
Now the "Head Waiter" we had back then was a man in his mid 50s, he basically ignored us, there weren't many customers either. There was at a push 14 customers, this was spread as three table including our own.
We had to go over to the two waitresses chatting very loudly at the bar to get them to take our orders. They didn't come over straight away either and when they decided it was time for them to come over there wasn't any sense of urgency and they didn't apologise for the long wait or anything.
I know there's an overwhelmingly negative tone in this review but trust me, the food is worth the terrible service.
Hopefully I've not discouraged you too much.

I soooooooo regret writing the raving review I wrote now!
Invited two of my pals for Chinese New Year celebration lunch and the place was packed. The waitress came to show us our table but was stopped by the 'Maitre D' (yup! probably the same one Kaptain Dim Sum was writing about....the annoying one with the pound sign Kerching! Kerching! in both her eyes...). Madam Kerching told us to go to take the seats at the corridor cos we did not make reservation. Several customers came later than us were given their table immediately by Madam Kerching even though they did not make reservations. Is it because we look 'studenty' that Kerching give preference to other customers who will spend more?
Strange I never notice Kerching before until today. She was ever so sweet and attentive to a couple who looked loaded......exchanged chinese new year greetings in cantonese and were told to follow her and got a table at once.
Will someone please recommend a good chinese resto in Glasgow where the quality of the food match up with the service?
The tragic thing is Madam Kerching gets away with her annoying behaviour because people go there for the food and the other waitresses are nice.
We ended up eating in another chinese resto where the food was rubbish but the service was warm and attentive
You just can't win 'em all!!

Best chinese restaurant in Glasgow....that's quite something coming from one who is extremely fussy and reasomably good at cooking chinese.
Good value for money in terms of portions and quality. My fave is 3 roasts off bone with, boiled rice.
The dim sum are delish.....same quality as what you get from Chinatown but Loon Fung charges slightly more. At least the service here is more friendly than grumpy waitresses in Chinatown.

Well I've been going to The Loon Fung for nearly 20 years and its changed hands a few times over that period.
The Dim Sum is spot on, huge variety of exciting dishes, always a treat and nowhere better in Glasgow. The soup is awesome, Won Ton and Hot and Sour are very special.
The starters are same as you would expect in any chinese restaurant, but good quality nonetheless.
Main courses are fantastic, and a great variety. The menu is vast and I tend to experiment with dishes I have not tried, but be warned, some are really for the adventurous. Go for the chicken chow mein with crispy noodles, what a feast!! Or the Shez Chan spicy beef, melt in the mouth.Or how about a treat of fresh lobster with ginger and spring onion.
Desserts are again same as you would expect in any good chinese, but I'd be surprised if you had any room for dessert haha
Overall, the staff are very friendly, but during peak times can cock up orders or run out of certain drinks. Also the 'maître d' can be very annoying coming round to chat every 5 mins when its quiet, and when its busy she lends a hand to other staff she forgets what she's meant to be doing.
I would suggest going off peak times, as the service is better and choice of meals wont be restricted, ie run out of lobster etc
Go for it, you wont be dissappointed I promise!!
