Shish Mahal

I have been going to Shish Mahal for past few years now always having the same thing Bhona lamb. The waiter yesterday recommended the Lamb Khada Masala, full rich spicy authentic Indian lamb cuisine … just couldn’t have been more Indian.
Lamb chops my wife said where to die for.
Shish can’t be beaten …… worth a visit

I visited the Shish Mahal with a friend after hearing some good reports. As a regular in Mother India I was looking to see how they compared. Quite simply there is no comparison with Mother India streets ahead.
Our table was booked for 6pm and we were out by 7.15pm. To be fair the restaurant was very busy and there were people waiting on tables but I felt as if they couldn't get us out quick enough.
As for the food I found it very ordinary. Never thought I'd say this in any restaurant but the Spiced Onions were too spicy! The batter on my Mushroom Pakora was hard which is pretty hard to excuse. I had Chicken Karahi for my main and although the chicken was well cooked I thought the sauce was very bland.
Just not good enough to make me want to go back.

This restaurant is very average. The food is bland, the service is surly and can't even be a consideration for an Indian meal in Glasgow when Cafe Mother India exists.

I used to eat at the Shish every Sunday when it was in Gibson Street. I moved South 20 years ago and visit Glasgow every other month and always have a curry when I return. A year ago a relative told me the Shish was in Park Road. I went for a curry and it was like stepping back into the past. The Chicken Bhuna is to die for. The Pakora (Chicken or Vegetable) is so much better than the oil filled Onion Bhajis down south.
The food is so good I take back a huge carryout every time I am back in Glasgow.

I have eaten curries in Glasgow, Edinburgh, Manchester, Newcastle, Nottingham, Derby, London, in Australia, USA, China and even across India itself and I can honestly say that the Shish Mahal is the best I have ever tasted. Only India itself challenges the Shish Mahal on the basis of a full rich tasty sauce but falls foul of fowl. The chicken (and lamb) prepared by the Shish is sublime.
The only thing that spoils the restaurant is that smoking is still allowed.

'Glasgow has the best Indians in Britain' and some say the Shish Mahal is the best. Well I'm up from London and this was rubbish. The menu weighed a good few kilos -not a good sign. First up was the chutnies - The raita was just yoghurt straight out of the carton and swirled around, no subtlety at all. You may not have eaten out of Glasgow but the tastleless goo masqerading as mango chutney couldn't even compare to a supermarket brand. The pashwari nan - what the hell was that red stuff spread on the top! Lets skip to the curries. These were just a throwback to the 1970's. The sort someone would now knock up for dinner at home. I'll try another Indian when I'm next in Glasgow but not this place!

The Shish Mahal is probably the best Indian (technically Indo-Pak) restaurant in Glasgow.
The food is sublime. These guys have been doing this for over forty years and it shows. They never put a foot wrong. Every aspect of the meal is faultless.
Indeed, it seems almost churlish to point out one particular aspect of the menu for praise. Everything is consistently excellent.
