Amarone

Well well well! Has Amarone become a victim of its own success?
After being a firm supporter of this restaurant I can only whimper my dismay at the level of service we received this evening after having dinner in Amarone.
This was the first visit this year although previously to this we visited Amarone almost every other month, and what a dissappointment this turned out to be. There was a very strong smell of 'damp' which was similarly recognised by the next table but although 'acknowledged' by the waiting staff, was then ignored completly by the management. It was indeed the worst tables to be positioned within the restaurant, two tables, in full view of the freezers and 'frozen carcasses' being moved to and fro from the kitchen, but which simply makes one wonder why 2 x 2 seater tables would compensate for a reputation, but still greed takes over....
After complaining more than once (4 times in all) which were to be blunt were quite simply 'rubber eared' we were offered to be re-positioned after we had ate and were finishing our drinks, a very little, just a bit, too late. Although when we were leaving the next table assured us as they had a relationship with the Manager through the DiMaggio connection they would be satisfied with the outcome!
However, we would have preferred a simple dining experience, with a proper follow up to complaints and action to resolve, as we would in any notable restaurant and which ultimately in our opinion, Amarone has now lost its reputation.
From what would always have been our recommendation as a 'must' visit in Glasgow this must always be complimented by the service and now Amarone simply does not meet this, as we all know pasta can be served warm and exquisite in many venues but to be able to overprice this, it is a must to compliment with an experience & service which quite simply needs the 'X Factor' and I am afraid Amarone has a long way to go on this now, which is a dissappointment to say the least but on the most recent reviews is worryingly not a shocking development.
We will not be back. and we of course told this to whom we believe to have been the manager, who appeared to shrug this off with the nonchalance of a niave host, I only hope by writing this review others will think twice on spending their hard earned money on this now well over rated dining experience.

My wife and i went to this restaurant with an other couple we have not seen in ages. We had a great meal, the wine flowed and we just felt that this was a really nice place to be in.

We visited the restaurant last night with friends. It was our first visit there, and although the food met our expectations the service left a lot to be desired.
From the moment we were seated we were met a frosty reception from our alloted waitress. She seemed to be irritated by our arrival after 2100hr which I can only assume was at odds with her mission to clear the tables and finish her shift. At no point were we greeted with a simple hello or the slightest hint of a smile. as we were rushed through our course's her mood did not lighten.
When we were looking for the Bill at the end of the evening she done her best to ignore us completely. My husband then attracted the attention of another waitress who was equally as disinterested, abrupt and on a mission to end her shift. She returned a minute later slapped down the Bill and left, again without any word of thanks.
It is the first time we have never left a tip at a restaurant and will never return.

I have eaten in Amarone 8 or 9 times in the past 3 years: due to proximity to my old office.
I was there last night, and have been moved to report that it has gone from being an average city centre dining location to being mediocre. The first impression was poor as one of the Managers was stood at the front door smoking with an aggressive scowl on his face. Clearly it was too busy inside, and he was intent on deterring customers.
Positives: wine list is quite good, ambiance very pleasant, and the main course - when it eventually arrived - was very good.
However the overall experience was torpedoed by the utterly abysmal service. My companion and I had decided not to order a Starter. The waitress needed this to be repeated to her 4 times. She needed to return to the table 3 more times to clarify the order.
The main course required 45 minutes to prepare, cook and serve. Midway through the wait, the waitress arrived to inform us that the Fillet Steak was always cooked fresh (?! what else?) and would therefore require more time than usual.
We found it difficult to attract attention to order more water, order coffees, ask for the bill. Once the bill arrived, we decided to pay cash and just leave the table with the payment on the invoice plate having waited more than 15 minutes for the waitress to return to us. On moving up the stairs to exit, the waitress bounded after us to ask us to pay! She was told the bill was paid, and that her service had been very poor. No comment.
I will not be returning to this establishment, as despite some positives, the service is extremely poor.

My partner and I ate at this restaurant on a busy Saturday, middle afternoon. I cannot disagree more with what the last person wrote!
The food was fab, the service excellent and we enjoyed it so much we are planning a visit this saturday, but at night time. Now I realise that the last comment was written some time ago, but I really felt I should address the comments made in the review.
I would be hard pressed to give a '10' for everything, and even by giving an '8' for each category, I feel a bit mean. However, I can't wait til Saurday!!

We arrived at the restaurant a little early, around 10mins and the waiter greeted us at the door. First impressions of the surroundings and interior were good. The waiter said to wait one moment as the table was not ready, we were 10 minutes early, it was not busy yet the table was not ready. We finally got to our seats which were in one of the many booths. We were then given the menus, looking through the wine list which was extensive and expensive, the house white was chosen at around £14.
We ordered our starters, then our mains. I personally had the veal chop. The waitress asked which sauce I wanted to which I replied “what sauces are there” as they are not written on the menu. After a little stumble and with no confidence what so ever she told me the sauces.
The starter arrived around 10mins after ordering which is very good. I had the tuna and swordfish which was a Carpaccio, nothing on the menu stated this. The others in my group had the scallops, tiger prawns and minestrone soup. The soup was luke warm, the prawns looked like they were bought from the local supermarket and the scallops were not bought fresh that day. Overall the starter was acceptable.
The mains arrived not long after we finished our starter. I had the veal chop with pepper sauce; others had deep fried fish and chips, some kind of pasta and steak and halibut. The veal was asked to be medium, it came rare. It said on the menu that it was to be rosemary, it was basil. I don’t know if the kitchen thought the customer wouldn’t know the difference. The fish courses were both disgusting. The fish was by no means fresh.
No desserts were ordered.
Not once did the waiting staff ask if everything was ok. Ladies toilets were disgusting, the male toilets were not much better. When we complained about the cold soup and toilets, it was ignored.
Truly one of the worst restaurants I have every dined in. Not very good value for money

Myself and two friends went on Sunday 10th May around 7:30pm. On arrival we were greeted by a waiter (who gave the impression that he would rather be elsewhere) and taken to our table. We ordered our drinks and when I received my glass of coke it tasted like sparkling water - not a good start. We ordered our food and when it arrived and I first tasted it, it did not do anything for my tastebuds - it was all very bland with the same theme carrying onto main course.
The service was not the best with the waitress calling myself a woman at least twice throughout the course of the night when clearly I am male - just because I was sitting with two other women, we were all called ladies.
There was a large table across from us which all the waiters/waitresses seemed to be paying attention to and it was very difficult to get a hold of someone without interupting the larger tables service.
The final blow came when we asked for the bill and for three people it came to
£76.00 - I am happy to pay this kind of money when the food and the service justifies it - but it didn't - blande food drizzled in tasteless olive oil.
I was so appaulled by the service and the food that I have written a letter to the restaurant to complain.

I went here with work colleagues one lunch time and I suggest you avoid any of the risottos.
The risotto at Amarone is made from boiled rice and not aborio risotto rice!
Tastes nothing like risotto, a waste of money, wont be back.
