Diner Table 33

Had a amazing dining experience at the Grill on the Corner last saturday evening. The buzz around the restaurant was great, service was first class and the food fantastic. My fiancee and I dined here for the first time and it will not be our last. Our meal consisted of warmed baked bread and olives to nibble on while we washed it down with large glass of chilled Californa 2006 Chardonnay. We opted for fish starters and shared the Rope Grown Scottish Mussels in a white wine and cream sauce and the Garlic Prawns with crusty bread, (so yummy). My partner ordered Cod & Chips, I have never seen a piece of fish this size in a restaurant in all my lifetime, done a light crisp batter and may I had non greasy while I went for the sizzle of attention with the Roasted duck with cucumber, spring onion & hoi sin sauce Fajitas. After all of the above, washed down with more wine, (waiter very attentive, did not even have to top up on my own, Patrick I am sure his name was) we shared the Peach Melba mess. We vacated our table and relaxed within the cosy seating in the bar area and finished our night off with a few basil grande and if you like your rum, try one of the Blackhouse Classics, Dark & Stormy, can't wait to revisit.

Soooo disagree with your comments and I am sure there are many people out there who have visited the grill and had a wonderful experience. We have sampled the new menu which we were told only launched recently, and what fabulous steak & seafood dishes available thereon, my choice of starter being the Skewered Chicken , marinated and grilled on a stick of lemongrass, the texture and flavour was to die for, followed by the chicken fajitas, which came to our table sizzling and smelling divine and believe me the taste has left a mouth-watering effect in my tastebuds. Can't wait until my next visit.

The Grill on the Corner, what can say...excellent high standard of service & superb food, we made a visit with friends on their recommendation and believe me, I did not leave disappointed. My courses consisted of the Smoked Haddock Chowder with warm bread (my favourite), Ostrich with caramelized onions was bursting with flavour. I could not resist sharing with my husband the Apple Pie & Custard and of course all were finely washed down by a large glass from the bottle (of course) of Chenin Blanc. I look forward to my next visit.

Visited a few months ago with friends and enjoyed the food. Booked for our anniversary last night. What a disappointment. The service is good but the food wasn't. My started of calamari was tasty but tiny. My maincourse of surf and turf I had to send back as one of hte prawns was cold. So there we are on our anniversary, my husband eating his main course and mine taken back to the kitchen! It was returned with the same prawns cooked this time and overcooked chips. A portion of broccolli came as an extra-not even a hint of butter or seasoning. A coffee to follow was awful. The taste of burnt milk was overpowering.
I expected not to have been charged fr my main course but not even a reduction of any sort. We were really disappointed. It seems to be one of these places where it's your luck whether the food is good or not. We won't be back in a hurry.

Had already booked a table before reading the reviews on this restaurant on this site, thankfully!
I went out for a fine dining experience with my partner and we were not disappointed. We were promplty taken to our table which was in itself a good location and didn`t feel at all cramped, as so many restraurants feel the need to do, by squeezing in as mant tables and seats as possible. The good table arrangement was matched with the beautiful decor and ambience was set for our valentines dinner.
To start I went for gnocci in a cheese sauce. Gnocci was beautifully done and the cheese sauce was superb, rich, creamy and very tasty indeed. My partner went for the garlic bread which was lovely in presentation, with the half bulb of garlic and olive oil being given to you, in order to allow you to flavour it to your liking, which was a very nice touch.
For main we had organic salmon, and I had the ostrich with sides of minted new potatoes and honey glazed carrots. Everything was beautifully cooked. I had never before tried ostrich so went on the reccomendation of our waitress, who was more than helpfull all night, when it came to how I would like it cooked, and it was succulent and tasty on its arrival as was the salmon which my partnter had. The potatoes were nice and the honey glazed carrots were excellent too.
To accompany the meal we had a bottle of rose which was very reasonable at £15.50.
The only dissapointment we had was the fact that neither of us had room to fit in a dessert, as if they were anything like out first two courses would have been superb.
We paid approx £80 inc tip, for our dinner which was very reasonable for the meal we were produced and considering it was valentines day too was excellent value. We were given 2 hours at our table which we sat for, as the warm atmosphere makes you want to do so, but at no point did we feel rushed into leaving by anyone.
All in all very pleasurable experience which will result both in our return and recommendation to others.

Cheers for the voucher but won't be rushing back.
Servive was ***** - but they did say they were understaffed.
Starterts
Thai Fish Cakes - way, way, way too much ginger killed the taste of any fish.
Calamari - cooked well but batter was rank and lemon mayo poor.
Mains
14oz Rib Eye med rare - lovely piece of beef and cooked really well.
Suft and turf - steak again well cooked and 2 huge king prawns lovely.
Chips - in a word awful. Soggy and just a poor effort all round really.
Garlic mushrooms - boring, unseasoned and too much garlic
Sugar snap peas - passable
Bernaise Sauce - Incredibly bad. Tasted like butter sauce. No taste of tarragon, wine vinegar, shallot or anything else. I had one taste of it and left the rest.
Desserts
Pinapple Carpaccio - really nice and refreshing.
Chocolate fudge cake - tasted like a Sara Lee effort, too dry and a bit sickly.
All in all a decidedly average meal and the whole place seems more concerned with appearence than with the food being served. The only thing cooked well was the steak which lets face it is not that hard to do - the rest of the food was unimaginative, boring and poorly presented.
I was very disappointed with this place and would not go back or recommend it especially at the prices they are charging. To be honest with what they must be paying in rent i cannot see this being around for long.

All in all a decidedly average meal and the whole place seems to me sorely lacking in direction. The food is very much hit and miss and i would not recommend this place especially at these prices.
